who is haig how it all began
A SAN FRANCISCO ORIGINAL
Haig is an Armenian who immigrated from Istanbul, Turkey to San Francisco, California in the mid-fifties. He founded Haig's Delicacies in 1956, on a small corner in San Francisco's Richmond District, immediately creating a buzz as a place to find rare and unique spices, teas, coffees, and gifts. It was also one of the only places in San Francisco to find a falafel sandwich at the time! James Beard was a frequent visitor to Haig's Delicacies and often wrote about this new international foods shop and its unique offerings.
Haig's Delicacies moved to its present location on Clement Street in 1972, a part of San Francisco known to be a food mecca. Although Haig has since retired, the store and business have remained within the family, where we proudly continue the tradition of carrying gourmet international foods and products.
The traditional Mediterranean foods that we have been serving at our store for all these years are based on family recipes that have been handed down from generation to generation. Our passion to share these delicacies has never lessened, and our line of delicious handcrafted foods can now be found beyond our storefront, in high-end markets all over the greater Bay Area.
